5:00-7:30pm Dinner

6:30-7:30 Intro to Machine Knitting and Demonstration w/Crystal.  This is an optional introduction to the knitting machine.  If you sign up for a Fair Isle Cowl in an Hour session you will need to attend this description and demo of machine knitting the body of the fair isle cowl.  Will discuss what you will be making and my role in getting this set up for you. There will be a full demo on making the cowl.  This is a great time to ask any questions.  After this class you will pick out your yarn because it needs to be wound twice, once into a ball and then onto a cone.  A very time consuming endeavor for Bobby :). You can pick out your yarn later in the weekend but it must be purchased by one of the vendors selling at the event and delivered to the winding area at least 2 hours prior to your session.  Further details about yarn and how to get a good contrast for the fair isle design will be discussed in class, and Crystal will be available afterwards for color consultation.

7:30-8:30pm Bowl Cozy Hot Pad (knitting)  w/Betty-2 skeins Berroco Pima 100 yarn. GREAT for holding your hot bowl of soup OR cold bowl of ice cream!! It can also go in the microwave while re-heating items in your bowl and the corners can be used for carrying.

7:30-8:30 Bowl Cozy Hot Pad (crochet) w/Liz 2 skeins Berroco Pima 100 yarn.  GREAT for holding your hot bowl of soup OR cold bowl of ice cream!! It can also go in the microwave while re-heating items in your bowl and the corners can be used for carrying.

7:30-8:30 Embroider Your Knit & Crochet w/Heidi   Bring an approx 7x7 or 8x8 swatch in DK (#5 needle or 3.75mm hook) or Worsted (#7 or 4.5mm hook).  We are using a smallish size needle to create a fairly solid fabric to work on.  Cast on or chain 30-40 stitches.  If you want your switch to have a "frame", work a garter stitch border of 6-8 rows, and then stockinette for the center, with the outer 5 or 6 stitches on the edges in garter.  In crochet, a solid SC or HDC square is good.  This swatch needs to be Knit or crocheted and bound off BEFORE class.  Heidi will supply design to be stitched, threads and sewing needles.

7:30-9:00 Social Knitting

Friday

7:30-9am Breakfast

8:30-9:15am Yoga w/Cynthia on the porch.

9:00-5:00pm 1 hour machine knitting class fair isle cowl w/Crystal.  This is a sign up only class: you can sign up early online, and if there are any spaces available you can sign up at the event.  This session is a 1 hour machine knitting class so you can knit the body of a fair isle cowl.  There will be waste yarn on both the top and bottom that will not unravel so when the class is over you can pick up the stitches and knit a ribbing edge, then seam the side and you’ll have a lovely fair isle cowl.  There will be written instructions provided for finishing as well as a Finishing Class Sunday morning.  The fair isle pattern shown will be exclusive to this knitting retreat.   You will need to have your yarn picked out and delivered to the winding area 2 hours prior to your session.  Take a picture of your yarn before you hand it over for winding in case others drop theirs off at the same time!  Please ensure you show up for your session 10 minutes early with your yarn wound onto cones.  I will set up the machine for you, going over some basics and will get the waste yarn knit as well as the first couple of rows so you can see how it goes.  And you’re ready to rock and roll from there!  I will stay with you the entire time in case of any snafus.  The key to success is to be consistent and go slowly.  You’re literally knitting 172 sts in the matter of 2 - 3 seconds, so it’s ok to take your time.  Once you have completed the fair isle pattern I will knit a few rows of waste yarn and bind off the fabric from the machine.  Take it to be steamed and start working on the ribbing right then if you want!

9:00-4:00pm Chair Massage $1 per minute.  Sign up online, but pay the therapist at the time of the massage.

9:00-10:00pm Sliplicious w/ Stacy 1 skein Uneek Worsted US 8 and 9 Needle, Stitch marker.  This pattern allows the yarn’s colors to do the work, with the slip stitch technique giving it an added layer of visual interest. The self-striping yarn will create vibrant bands of color, while the slip stitches will subtly highlight the transitions and add structure to the fabric.  Each colorway of the yarn produces its distinctive effect, so no two pieces will look exactly alike—every project becomes a one-of-a-kind creation!  Skill Level: Easy  Techniques: 1x1 Rib Cable cast on, twisted Rib, slip stitches, Italian/Tubular bind-off.er.
